Doechii, whose former stage name is Iamdoechii, was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. She grew up in the arts-ballet, participating in tap dancing and acting, sports-cheerleading and gymnastics.

During her time in performing arts school and on track to go to college for classical choral singing, Hickmon got to learn about the online audio distribution platform and music sharing website, SoundCloud and the DIY music scene from one of her friend in 2015.

Doechii who was by then in 11th-grade, started cutting school and utilizing that same friend’s home studio to make music. She would soon begin her musical career by releasing her first song, “Girls,” online in 2016 under her former stage name, Iamdoechii.

In 2019, Doechii returned with her debut project Coven Music Session, Vol. 1. She then rose to prominence in 2020 with her breakout single “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake,” which is featured on her EP titled Oh The Places You’ll Go also released in 2020.

Doechii cites Kanye West, Outkast, Lauryn Hill, Pharrell and Nicki Minaj as her biggest influences.

During a 2021 interview with XXL Magazine, Doechii stated that her most slept-on song is “Spookie Coochie”.

Doechii released her third music project, an EP titled Bra-Less in April 2021. During the same year, she was a featured on Isaiah Rashad’s album, The House Is Burning on the song “Wat U Sed” and performed on spot dates during his Lil Sunny’s Awesome Vacation Tour.

On March 1, 2022, HITS Daily Double reported that Doechii had signed a deal with West Coast label, Top Dawg Entertainment. This led to a bidding war between major labels looking to handle her distribution.
